“Is Jesus Really the Messiah?”
Help Life in Messiah continue to bring God’s Word to the Jewish people!
“Is Jesus really the Jewish Messiah?” *Rivkah asked.
Scott, a Jewish believer who was leading the Life in Messiah Passover Seder, was surprised by Rivkah’s question. Every year in the spring, Life in Messiah staff have the privilege of leading people through a Messianic Passover Seder. This celebration of the biblical feast beautifully presents Yeshua (Jesus) as the Lamb of God who brings redemption to the world.
Scott was leading the Seder when he met Rivkah, a Jewish woman who was attending with her Christian friend. In the middle of the Seder, Rivkah approached Scott to ask about Jesus’ identity as the Messiah. Scott responded by pointing her to Isaiah 53. This was Rivkah’s first time reading the passage, but she instantly understood what it meant. “It sounds like the prophecy is talking about Jesus,” she said with a smile.
Scott affirmed this and pointed out that this ancient prophecy, which so clearly describes Jesus, is from the Hebrew Bible! Rivkah nodded thoughtfully. Then she pointed to verse 3, which says, “He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.” Rivkah asked, “If Jesus is the Jewish Messiah, why did we as Jewish people not esteem Him?”
Scott took a deep breath, silently asking God for wisdom. He was quickly reminded of John 1:11–13 and pointed Rivkah to this passage. She read and reread the verses. The second time she read the words, “but as many as received him,” Rivkah stopped. She looked up at Scott, her eyes filling with tears. She didn’t speak, but he knew what she was asking. “Yes, Rivkah, it’s true,” Scott said. “If you receive Him, you will become a child of God.” Rivkah was silent, pondering his words. Finally, Scott asked, “Rivkah, do you believe?”
With tears running down her cheeks, Rivkah answered, “Yes, I believe!”

When Jewish people read the Bible…
…Something powerful happens. Stories like Rivkah’s inspire us to keep working to reach the Jewish people with their own Scriptures. We’ve seen repeatedly what happens when they encounter God’s Word firsthand.
Before Scott was leading Passover Seders, he had his own encounter with God’s Word. In the video below, Scott explains how reading the Bible transformed his life.
