Jacob’s Sight

Weep, oh weep, for Jacob’s[1] sight
Seeing but not perceiving.[2]
Ancient Text’s guiding light,
The plan for their salvation
Faithfully foretold.[3]

The coming Branch of David[4]
A Messianic throne;
The reigning King Messiah
Come to save His own.[5]

So willing were the people
To receive a mighty King,
And all the promised blessings
That this One would bring.

But what if His arrival
came not with pomp and clout?
But humbly in a stable[6]
And on a donkey’s mount?[7]
Would Israel accept Him as the Holy One?
Or cast Him from their midst,
Rejecting Him as the Son?

Just as David wrote
so very long ago,
Psalm 2 was now fulfilled.
Was this their final blow?

“May it never be![8]”
The Apostle Paul would write.
Though Jacob could not see,
They will regain their sight.

And in the future plead
Once they know their plight.[9]

Now though, for a time,
Few would claim Him as their own.[10]
But there will come a day
when all Israel bows before His throne.[11]

This is when our weeping
Will turn to joy and praise,
When “Jacob” comes to Jesus
Their arms and voices raised.
We know He is Messiah,
We’ll serve Him as our King.
There’s nothing we can do,
and nothing we can bring,
For He has done it all[12]
Let grace and mercy ring.

We now join with Heaven’s armies
The anthem that they sing:
Jesus is Messiah
He is the King of Kings![13]
